Border crosser and networker: one of the most important institutions of independent theater The Sophiensæle, founded in 1996 by artists (including today's company Sasha Waltz & Guests) in a former craftsmen's club, is a venue for freely produced theater and dance projects. Here artists and groups from the national and international scene present innovative and experimental artistic concepts, aesthetics, styles and formats. In numerous texts and photos, the volume gathers the discourses and atmospheres of the independent scene since 2011 and reflects on topics such as the subversive power of female comedy, comprehensive strategies of excessive demands, performative negotiations of the documentary and, last but not least, possible openings to the audience.
